The Elephant is providing "Out of the Ordinary" cuisine to North West Kansas. Elevate your cooking skills and learn what it takes to be a chef! This entire level position will teach you classic and creative techniques in the kitchen that will take food from ordinary to extraordinary.
We are looking for both full-time and part-time line/prep cooks to become a part of our fun and exciting culinary team at The Elephant Bistro & Bar. Our mission is to bring elaborate French-American cuisine in a small eclectic setting right in the heart of Northwest Kansas.

This position will be required to produce all assigned menu items efficiently and consistently while following the specifications, recipes, and techniques of The Elephant.
No experience is required, but preferred. Training is available for those who are reliable with a passion for food. Training available.
Wage: DOQ; starting $10-$18
Job duties and responsibilities
Responsibilities
- Set up and stock stations with all necessary supplies
- Prepare food for service (e.g. chopping vegetables, butchering meat, preparing sauces, etc.)
- Prepare a variety of meats, seafood, poultry, vegetables, dairy, and other food items using knives, electric mixers, immersion blenders, food processors, scales, and portion bags.
- Process prepared foods for service using ovens, gas stoves, griddles, and grills.
- Assure that each item is cooked to the Chef and guest’s specifications
- Garnish each dish properly
- Answer, report, and follow the executive or sous chef’s instructions
- Maintain a clean and sanitary workstation area including tables, shelves, grills, sauté burners, ovens, flat top griddles, and refrigeration equipment both during and after service
- Stock inventory appropriately
- Ensure that food comes out simultaneously, in high quality, and in a timely fashion.
- Assume responsibility for quality, food safety/sanitation, and timeliness of products serve.d
- Maintain a positive and professional approach with coworkers and customers
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the management staff
- Job qualifications and requirements
Skills
- Previous experience working as a Line Cook for 2 years is highly preferred
- Culinary school diploma preferred
- In-depth knowledge of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and procedures
- Familiar with the industry’s best practices
- Accuracy and speed in executing assigned tasks
