At Books, a whiskey and cigar society, our Head Mixologist is the curator of unforgettable experiences. This role goes beyond pouring drinks — it’s about storytelling through cocktails, designing menus that complement rare whiskeys and fine cigars, and leading a team with precision, passion, and creativity. As the face behind the bar, you’ll balance innovation with tradition to deliver a truly elevated standard of hospitality.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the bar program, including cocktail menu design, seasonal features, and whiskey pairings.
  • Train, mentor, and inspire bartenders and barbacks to uphold service excellence.
  • Maintain deep knowledge of whiskey, spirits, cigars, and mixology trends.
  • Curate and host whiskey tastings, mixology experiences, and private events.
  • Oversee inventory, purchasing, and stock rotation with attention to cost control.
  • Ensure bar setup, cleanliness, and compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Collaborate with management on event programming and guest experiences.
  • Uphold Books’ refined yet welcoming atmosphere, setting the standard for guest interactions.

Skills

  • 3+ years bartending experience in upscale or high-volume environments; 1+ year in a leadership role.
  • Expert knowledge of whiskey, spirits, cocktail history, and mixology techniques.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and mentorship skills.
  • Creativity with an eye for presentation and balance.
  • Professional presence and ability to engage with discerning guests.
  • TABC and Food Handler certifications (or ability to obtain).

Job Settings

  • Primarily evening and weekend shifts.
  • Must be available for holidays, whiskey events, and private functions.
