Bartender – Job Description

Position Summary

The Bartender is responsible for preparing and serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages while providing friendly, professional, and attentive service to guests. The Bartender is also responsible for maintaining an organized, clean, properly stocked, and controlled bar area.

Responsibilities

  • Greet bar guests promptly and provide professional, attentive service.
  • Prepare cocktails, beer, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages according to restaurant recipes and standards.
  • Follow established recipes, measurements, glassware, garnishes, and presentation standards.
  • Take and accurately enter food and beverage orders into the POS system.
  • Prepare beverage orders for servers accurately and efficiently.
  • Maintain proper ticket times during busy service.
  • Check identification and verify legal drinking age when required.
  • Follow all applicable alcohol-service laws and restaurant policies.
  • Monitor guest alcohol consumption and immediately notify management of potential intoxication concerns.
  • Maintain accurate control of liquor, beer, wine, mixers, and bar supplies.
  • Properly account for every beverage served through the POS system.
  • Never provide unauthorized complimentary drinks, discounts, or excessive pours.
  • Handle cash, credit cards, tabs, discounts, and payments according to restaurant procedures.
  • Keep the bar, counters, equipment, glassware, coolers, and work areas clean and organized.
  • Restock liquor, beer, wine, garnishes, mixers, ice, glassware, and other supplies as needed.
  • Prepare garnishes and complete required bar prep before service.
  • Monitor inventory and report low stock, breakage, spills, or unusual product usage to management.
  • Assist with bar inventory counts when requested.
  • Follow proper opening, shift-change, side-work, and closing procedures.
  • Work closely with servers, food runners, bussers, kitchen staff, and managers.
  • Follow all sanitation, food-safety, attendance, dress-code, and workplace policies.
  • Perform other reasonable duties assigned by the Bar Manager or Shift Manager.

Requirements

  • Previous bartending experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of cocktails, spirits, beer, wine, and basic bar service.
  • Strong customer-service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately in a high-volume environment.
  • Ability to multitask while maintaining drink quality and accuracy.
  • Dependable and punctual.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and safely lift typical bar supplies.
  • Must meet all applicable age and alcohol-service requirements.

Performance Expectations

Bartenders are expected to maintain high standards of guest service, drink quality, recipe consistency, speed, cleanliness, responsible alcohol service, inventory control, and teamwork while properly accounting for all beverages served.
