Job Description: Prep Cook (Thai and Sushi Restaurant)

Position Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and skilled Prep Cook to join our team at our Thai and Sushi restaurant. As a Prep Cook, you will play a crucial role in preparing and organizing ingredients, ensuring the smooth operation of the kitchen during service hours. Your precision in measuring, chopping, and marinating ingredients will contribute to the high-quality dishes we serve to our guests.

Responsibilities:

  1. Assist in the preparation of ingredients for Thai and sushi dishes, including washing, peeling, cutting, and marinating vegetables, meats, and seafood.
  2. Measure and portion ingredients accurately, following the restaurant's recipes and portion control guidelines.
  3. Prepare sushi rice according to established standards and assist sushi chefs in assembling sushi rolls and nigiri.
  4. Organize and maintain the freshness of all prepped ingredients in designated storage areas.
  5. Ensure all food items meet quality and presentation standards before they are used in the kitchen or on the sushi bar.
  6. Collaborate with the kitchen team to coordinate preparation schedules and prioritize tasks based on order volume.
  7. Assist in the setup and breakdown of kitchen stations before and after service hours.
  8. Adhere to food safety and sanitation guidelines to maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment.
  9. Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, utensils, and workstations as required.
  10. Assist in receiving and storing deliveries, checking for quality and freshness of products.
  11. Inform the kitchen manager or head chef when ingredient supplies are running low or equipment needs maintenance.
  12. Assist in inventory management, including tracking usage of ingredients and reporting discrepancies.
  13. Cooperate with other kitchen staff to ensure a smooth flow of operations during busy hours.
  14. Maintain a positive and cooperative attitude while working in a fast-paced kitchen environment.

Requirements:

  1. Previous experience as a Prep Cook or similar culinary role, with knowledge of Thai and/or sushi cuisine preferred.
  2. Basic understanding of food preparation techniques and culinary terminology.
  3. Ability to follow recipes and portion control guidelines accurately.
  4. Knowledge of proper food safety and sanitation practices, including safe handling of raw ingredients.
  5. Strong organizational and time-management skills to meet preparation schedules and kitchen demands.
  6. Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on the restaurant's operating hours.
  7. Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and lift moderately heavy items.
  8. Ability to work collaboratively with kitchen staff and take direction from the kitchen manager or head chef.
