Position Title: Bar and Tavern Cook
Location: Snipe Lake Pub and Grill
Reports to: Bar Manager/Owner
Job Type: Thursday - Sunday 3-9 pm

Job Overview:

A Bar and Tavern Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking food in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, typically in a bar or tavern setting. They work closely with bar staff, servers, and kitchen management to ensure food is prepared efficiently, consistently, and meets the quality standards expected by customers. The cook will handle a variety of cooking techniques and ingredients, maintaining a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Food Preparation:
    Prepare, cook, and present dishes in accordance with the menu specifications.
    Follow recipes, portion control guidelines, and cooking instructions to maintain consistency and quality.
    Assist in the preparation of ingredients, sauces, and garnishes.
    Ensure all food items are cooked to the correct temperature and safety standards.
  2. Menu Development & Specialties:
    Suggest new dishes or seasonal specials based on local ingredients or customer preferences.
    Work with the kitchen team to adjust recipes and menu items as needed.
  3. Kitchen Maintenance:
    Maintain cleanliness of workstations, kitchen equipment, and storage areas, adhering to health and safety regulations.
    Ensure that food safety standards (e.g., sanitation, temperature control) are followed throughout food preparation and storage.
    Maintain proper stock levels, and help with inventory management to ensure all necessary ingredients are available.
  4. Collaborative Work:
    Communicate effectively with the bar staff and servers to ensure timely and accurate orders.
    Work well with other kitchen staff, including dishwashers, prep cooks, and sous chefs, to meet the demands of the kitchen during peak hours.
  5. Customer Interaction:
    Occasionally, the cook may interact with customers to explain menu items or discuss dietary restrictions.
  6. Health & Safety Compliance:
    Comply with all food safety and hygiene guidelines, including proper handling and storage of ingredients.
    Ensure all kitchen equipment is functioning properly and report any maintenance issues.
  7. Additional Responsibilities:
    Assist with setting up the kitchen for service, including prepping for rush hours.
    May be responsible for opening or closing the kitchen depending on shift.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a cook in a fast-paced environment, preferably in a bar, tavern, or restaurant.
  • Knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques, and food safety standards.
  • Ability to work in a team and communicate effectively with staff and customers.
  • Strong time management skills and ability to handle high-volume orders.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (additional culinary education or certification is a plus).
  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods and lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs).

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with a variety of kitchen equipment (e.g., grills, fryers, ovens).
  • Familiarity with inventory management systems and ordering.
  • Creative thinking for menu development and special promotions.
  • Strong knowledge of different cuisines and dietary preferences (e.g., vegetarian, gluten-free).

Work Environment:

  • Fast-paced and dynamic setting, often requiring the ability to work efficiently during peak hours.
  • The role may require working late nights, weekends, and holidays, depending on the tavern’s operating hours.
  • Regular exposure to heat, sharp objects, and cleaning chemicals in a kitchen environment.
