Job Summary
Cook and prepare a variety of food products including meats, seafood, poultry, vegetables, sauces, stocks and other food products using a variety of equipment and utensils according to the Daily Prep List.
Activities & Responsibilities

  • Must be available to work Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and during holidays for brunch, lunch, and dinner.
  • Must be professional, presentable, have high attention to personal hygiene, and be ready for kitchen performance. Must have non-slip shoes, and breathable clothes for high-heat environments.
  • Must clean and sanitize work stations constantly, including tables, shelves, walls, grills, broilers, fryers, convection oven, flat top range and refrigeration equipment.
  • Prepare a variety of foods, such as meats, vegetables, and desserts, according to customers' orders or supervisors' instructions, following approved procedures.
  • Wash, peel, and cut various foods, such as fruits, vegetables, and proteins to prepare for cooking or serving. Use manual or electric appliances to peel, slice, and trim foods.
  • Ensure freshness of food and ingredients by checking for quality.
  • Receive, store and organize deliveries of food supplies, equipment, and utensils in refrigerators, cupboards, and other storage areas. Rotate stock with first-in first-out stocking procedures. Label all food with correct dates and ensure date compliance.
  • Promptly inform supervisors when equipment is not working properly and when food and supplies are getting low, and requests orders be made for all products needed.
  • Use Executive Chef's Recipes for preparing all products and does not deviate from cooking procedures or instructions. Must be able to follow directions.
  • Complete opening and closing checklists and assists others in opening and closing the kitchen.
  • Responsible for the quality of products served. Must have a sense of personal responsibility and quality control of all products served especially during peak times of operation.
  • Observe, taste, season and ensure food is stored and cooked at the correct, food-safe temperatures, and to the standards of the Executive Chef.
  • Portion, arrange, and garnish food according to standard portion sizes and recipe specifications.
  • At Texas Biergarten, we support each other, this is our culture and communication is key to keeping our culture going. You must be responsive to phone calls and texts and available to substitute for other cooks during emergencies or rush periods as needed.
  • Attend all scheduled employee meetings and offer suggestions for improvement.
  • Ability to perform in a fast paced environment.
  • Possess critical thinking skills, problem-solve and must have ability to measure, multiply, and divide portions/ingredients per requirements.
  • Able to handle high heat environments.
  • Strict adherence to all safety procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must possess Food Handler's permit. Food Manager's Certificate preferred.
  • Must have 2-4 years of cooking experience in a similar capacity. Baking experience is preferred.
  • Must have exceptional knife skills and display a sense of personal safety around all equipment.
  • Able to communicate effectively with managers and kitchen personnel. Must be able to work effectively in a bi-lingual, Spanish speaking environment using Google translate or other translation tools if not bi-lingual.
  • Able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 8 hours).
