The Old York Tavern is seeking a passionate, reliable, and motivated Head Chef to join our team.
We are a neighbourhood tavern with French and American brasserie influence.
We are open 7 days a week for lunch, dinner and weekend brunch services.
As a Head Chef, you will lead our kitchen operations with a focus on seasonal creativity, consistency, and efficiency, while maintaining a positive kitchen environment. This role balances hands-on cooking with team leadership, cost control, and collaboration with FOH management to deliver a unified guest experience.
Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all kitchen operations and staff
  • Develop and execute seasonal menus and features
  • Ensure consistency in food quality, presentation, and timing
  • Monitor food costs, waste, and labour to hit targets
  • Uphold cleanliness and safety standards (Health & Safety compliance)
  • Oversee inventory, ordering, and supplier relationships
  • Foster a respectful, communicative kitchen culture
  • Collaborate on events, specials, and service adjustments with management
  • Train and mentor cooks and junior staff

Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 2–4 years experience as a Head Chef or Sous Chef in a fast-paced, quality-driven restaurant
  • Strong knowledge of seasonal and local ingredients
  • Proven ability to manage costs and lead a team
  • Comfortable with scheduling, ordering systems, and prep management
  • Clear, calm communicator and team leader
  • Food Handler Certification (required)
