Job Overview

Front-of-the-house team members are the ambassadors of Canal Street Eatery and Market; greeting customers, taking, and fulfilling orders all while providing friendly customer service. Members of the team must be able to accurately describe all Canal Street Eatery and Market food and beverages, coordinate special orders with the kitchen, and make coffee drinks.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
• Passionate for great food, coffee, and great hospitality!
• Greets and assists our guests with high energy and enthusiasm in the store and on the phone.
• Brews all teas and coffees.
• Open and close lunch line for custom salads and sandwiches
• Prepares and stocks grab n go retail market with salads, sandwiches and other in house items.
• Stocks retail product (chips, candy, drinks etc)
• Prepares espresso based drinks (milk steaming, drink construction).
• Fulfills beverage & food orders efficiently and accurately.
• Dials in as needed for the best tasting espresso.
• Continually improves knowledge around all menu items.
• Handles monetary transactions and sales using the Point of Sale system.
• Follows and improves opening, closing, and other procedural checklists.
• Fully stock and maintain products using FIFO to ensure product freshness.
• Recognizes, acknowledges, and communicates errors and potential quality problems.
• Keeps dining areas and workspaces neat, clean, and sanitary.
• Participates actively in team meetings, and events.
• Arrives on time for all shifts, meetings, and classes.
• Adheres to dress code standards.
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds, go up and down stairs and work standing for long periods of time.
• Inventory & ordering responsibilities.
• Possible additional customer service duties.
• Training new and existing team members on coffee bar duties, customer service standards, sanitation, and other FOH aspects.
• Must follow up and follow through with tasks.
Job Details:
• Full-Time Position
• Weekends not required
• Shifts are Monday - Friday between 6am - 5pm (subject to change)
• Starting at $17.00/hour + tips
• Eligible for health insurance (50% employer contribution), dental, vision, life, short term disability, and PTO after 90 days.
• Sick leave in accordance with Chicago law.
The Success Patterns for this position are:
• Experience working in customer service or retail. Minimum 2 years.
• Experience working in a food service environment. Minimum 1 year.
• Experience working as a barista. Minimum 1 year.
• Experience using a Point of Sales system. Square preferred.
• Leadership experience is a plus.
• Food handler’s certificate required.
• Servsafe Manager City of Chicago Certificate preferred.
• Servsafe Allergen Certificate preferred.
