Chalkboard Wings & BBQ is looking for bartender apprentices & servers, While experience and education are encourages, we’re looking for people willing to learn the restaurant, bar, and BBQ business and have a good time while doing it. We believe in hiring, training, and empowering our staff to help us build this business while helping them build a career. An experienced service industry person working with us can expect to learn enough to open their own restaurant a few years later, and we would help you achieve that dream.
Owned by C.J. Cross, the managing partner at Hops N Shine in Del Ray, Chalkboard Wings & BBQwill keep the neighborhood vibe that HnS provides as a neighborhood bar, while having a heightened food experience through our extensive wing menu, wood smoked BBQ, and smash burgers. Chef Philip Monteforte, a 22 year kitchen veteran, will be heading up our culinary team. We will offer 12 beers on draft, and another dozen in can/bottle, as well as an extensive whiskey and cocktail list. Stationed in the Mount Vernon/Woodlawn neighborhood of South Alexandria, Chalkboard will also be providing pop-up food experiences at local breweries, farmers markets, and apartment complexes. We will be building out a catering department in late Spring/early Summer.

Chalkboard Wings & BBQ believes employees are worth investing in. All full-time staff will earn at least $15/hour. After six months of employment employees begin to earn paid time off, health benefits, and 401k contributions, and profit sharing bonuses. We are an open book company, and hope to be able to give our team the clarity of our business practices they need to want to help us grow as an organization.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare alcohol or non-alcohol beverages for bar and restaurant patrons
  • Support other bar staff by restocking items, running food, and preparing supplies needed for a successful shift
  • Take and complete carry-out orders in a timely manner
  • Interact with customers, take orders and serve snacks and drinks
  • Assess customers’ needs and preferences and make recommendations
  • Mix ingredients to prepare cocktails
  • Check customers’ identification and confirm it meets legal drinking age
  • Restock and replenish bar inventory and supplies
  • Stay guest focused and nurture an excellent guest experience
  • Comply with all food and beverage regulations

Skills

  • Resume and proven working experience in the service industry
  • Excellent knowledge of in mixing, garnishing and serving drinks
  • Computer literacy
  • Knowledge of a second language is a plus
  • Positive attitude and excellent communication skills
  • Ability to keep the bar organized, stocked and clean
  • Relevant training certificate
