BAKING ASSISTANT - FOOD PREP JOB DESCRIPTION
Canadian Bakin is looking for enthusiastic, skilled, and creative Bakers who strive to provide excellent baked items and service in an efficient, professional manner. The Baker will design, execute, and improve recipes, perform quality checks on ingredients and finished products, and process orders from customers. You will also greet customers, answer questions, clean workstations and equipment, and perform other duties to ensure that customer needs are satisfied and the bakery is well-stocked and operating smoothly.
To be a successful Baker, you should be efficient and friendly with a strong focus on food quality and customer service. You should be organized, decisive, attentive, and possess an understanding of baking techniques. Some on-the-job training will be provided.

This position starts at $10/hr + tips (avg. $5/hr), and is negotiable based on experience.

Baker Responsibilities:

  • Clean kitchen equipment and tools before use
  • Measuring and combining ingredients and using mixers, blenders, heat sources, and other equipment to make baked goods, such as bagels, pretzels, sourdough, baguettes and other specialty breads.
  • Testing ingredients and finished goods to ensure that each item meets food safety and quality controls.
  • Troubleshooting recipes in a changing, fast-paced environment
  • Cleaning and restocking workstations and ensuring that all equipment is sanitized and prepared for the next shift.
  • Keeping records relating to inventory and production levels.
  • Greeting customers and answering questions about their orders
  • Ensuring that orders are fulfilled accurately and in a timely manner

Baker Requirements:

  • Must be able to work early morning hour shifts, starting as early as 4am
  • Strong communication, time and resource management, and planning skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and focused in a fast-paced environment
  • Team spirit, with a customer-focused attitude
  • Attention to detail, especially when performing quality inspections on ingredients and products.
  • Basic math skills for measuring and calculating recipes
  • Willingness to work independently or with other team members to solve problems, fulfill orders, and create amazing baked goods.
  • Flexibility to work around customer demands, including early morning, night, and weekend availability
  • Ability to work in hot, hectic environment, stand, walk, bend, use hands and appliances, and lift heavy items (up to 50lbs) for extended periods.
  • Familiarity with all professional kitchen equipment, including mixers, blenders and dough sheeters
  • Flexibility to work in early morning shifts

As a small bakery, employee roles will at times overlap. At times, you may be expected to step into food prep and other duties as needed, including:

  • Follow the prep list created by the team leads to plan duties
  • Label and stock all ingredients on shelves so they can be organized and easily accessible
  • Measure ingredients and seasonings to be used in cooking
  • Prepare cooking ingredients by washing and chopping fruits and vegetables, cutting meat, etc.
  • Undertake basic cooking duties such as cooking bacon, eggs, making sauces, etc.
  • Prepare sandwich dishes consistently and efficiently
  • Maintain a clean and orderly kitchen by washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, taking out trash etc.
  • Ensure all food and other items are stored properly
  • Comply with nutrition and sanitation guidelines
  • Perform other kitchen duties as assigned
