Role Overview
The Host is responsible for greeting guests with warmth, managing reservations and seating flow, and supporting smooth FOH operations. As the face of Eight Settlers, hosts set the tone for the guest experience by balancing professionalism, efficiency, and hospitality.
Key Responsibilities

  • Welcome and greet all guests with a friendly, professional demeanor.
  • Manage reservations and walk-ins using OpenTable (or assigned reservation system).
  • Provide menus, plates, and silverware to seated guests and inform them of their server.
  • Assist in checking guest IDs to ensure compliance with Utah liquor laws.
  • Communicate wait times clearly and manage seating rotation to balance server sections.
  • Keep host stand and entry areas organized, clean, and guest-ready.
  • Coordinate with FOH team and managers regarding guest needs, large parties, and special accommodations.
  • Support FOH operations by resetting tables, assisting with service items, and maintaining flow during busy periods.

Qualifications

  • Previous host or guest service experience preferred, but not required.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to multitask and remain calm in a fast-paced environment.
  • Professional, friendly, and team-oriented attitude.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Food Handlers Permit and Utah Alcohol Training/Certification (or ability to obtain before start).
