Position Overview

The Prep Cook at Cork & Craft is responsible for the careful preparation and organization of ingredients that ensure smooth kitchen operations and consistently high-quality dishes. This role requires precision, efficiency, and pride in craftsmanship — every dish begins with the prep cook’s attention to detail.
Prep Cooks play a key role in supporting the chefs and line cooks by maintaining well-stocked, clean, and organized stations that reflect Cork & Craft’s commitment to excellence and consistency.

Key Responsibilities

Food Preparation & Organization

  • Prepare ingredients according to standardized recipes and daily prep lists.
  • Wash, chop, measure, and portion food items for service.
  • Ensure all prep is labeled, dated, and stored properly following food safety standards.
  • Assist with receiving, inspecting, and rotating inventory to maintain freshness and minimize waste.
  • Follow exact portioning, weighing, and presentation guidelines to maintain consistency.

Kitchen Efficiency & Support

  • Communicate with cooks and management to stay ahead of service needs.
  • Replenish line cook stations with prepped ingredients throughout the shift.
  • Support line cooks during busy service periods as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and organized prep area at all times.
  • Assist with daily setup, breakdown, and closing duties in the kitchen.

Safety & Sanitation

  • Adhere strictly to all food safety, health, and sanitation standards.
  • Clean and sanitize work surfaces, equipment, and utensils throughout the day.
  • Ensure all items are stored at proper temperatures and in designated areas.
  • Follow proper procedures for handling allergens and cross-contamination prevention.

Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with cooks, dishwashers, and management to maintain steady kitchen flow.
  • Communicate ingredient shortages, quality issues, or equipment problems promptly.
  • Support the Cork & Craft culture of teamwork, quality, and respect.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Minimum 1–2 years of prep or kitchen experience preferred (training available).
  • Knowledge of basic knife skills, cooking techniques, and food safety standards.
  • Ability to follow recipes, prep lists, and portioning guidelines with precision.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to multitask.
  • Dependable, punctual, and proactive work ethic.
  • Must have or obtain a valid food handler’s certification.
