Line Cook – Job Description

Position Summary

The Dinner Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking menu items during dinner service according to restaurant recipes, quality standards, portion sizes, and presentation requirements. This position works closely with the kitchen team to ensure food is prepared safely, consistently, and efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook assigned dinner menu items according to restaurant recipes and standards.
  • Set up and properly stock the assigned station before service.
  • Complete required prep work before the start of dinner service.
  • Follow proper cooking temperatures, portion sizes, plating, and presentation standards.
  • Maintain consistent food quality and appearance.
  • Prepare orders accurately and in a timely manner, especially during high-volume service.
  • Read and follow kitchen tickets carefully, including modifications and allergy instructions.
  • Communicate with other cooks, expo, servers, and kitchen management to coordinate orders.
  • Keep the cooking station clean, organized, and properly stocked throughout the shift.
  • Follow proper food handling, sanitation, labeling, storage, and temperature-control procedures.
  • Rotate products using FIFO (First In, First Out).
  • Minimize food waste and immediately report quality or inventory concerns.
  • Properly use and care for kitchen equipment, knives, cookware, and utensils.
  • Assist other kitchen stations when necessary.
  • Complete cleaning and closing duties before leaving the shift.
  • Follow instructions from the Chef, Kitchen Manager, or Shift Manager.
  • Follow all restaurant safety, sanitation, attendance, and workplace policies.

Requirements

  • Previous line cook or restaurant kitchen experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic cooking techniques and food safety.
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately in a fast-paced kitchen.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and work around heat and kitchen equipment.
  • Ability to lift and carry typical kitchen supplies and food products.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to work scheduled dinner shifts, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Must maintain a clean and professional appearance.

The Dinner Cook is expected to consistently produce food that meets restaurant standards for quality, taste, temperature, portion, presentation, cleanliness, and ticket time while working professionally as part of the kitchen team.
