Job Summary:
The Assistant Kitchen Manager is a pivotal role responsible for supporting the Kitchen Manager in the daily operations of the restaurant’s kitchen. This individual ensures the highest standards of food quality, safety, and cleanliness are maintained. The Assistant Kitchen Manager will oversee food preparation, manage inventory, and train new employees on proper food handling and safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the preparation and cooking of food to ensure quality and safety standards are met.
  • Manage inventory levels, including ordering supplies and ingredients to maintain a well-stocked kitchen.
  • Working as the primary kitchen line role when on shift while simultaneously overseeing other kitchen workers as a shift lead.
  • Filling in for shifts whenever needed due to employee absences or scheduling conflicts
  • Train new kitchen employees on proper food handling, preparation techniques, and kitchen safety protocols.
  • Monitor kitchen equipment functionality and cleanliness, arranging maintenance and repairs as needed.
  • Collaborate with the Kitchen Manager to develop menu items, considering cost, availability of ingredients, and seasonal variations.
  • Handle customer complaints related to food quality or service in the kitchen area, providing immediate solutions to maintain satisfaction.
  • Implement and enforce health and safety protocols to comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Open and/or close the kitchen and/or shop ensuring all daily duties are completed. Utilizing checklists to ensure employees complete all necessary daily duties.
  • Must be willing to work weekends, or at the very least, alternating weekends.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in a kitchen leadership role, preferably as an Assistant Kitchen Manager or similar.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and procedures. Must have ServeSafe certification or be willing to obtain certification as quickly as possible.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective team management.
