Neighbourly Homes is a fully managed transitional housing community developed by 12 Neighbours Community Inc. We provide more than a place to stay — we foster a community where people can reconnect with stability, dignity, and belonging. Our Saint John site is a micro-home courtyard designed to offer low-barrier, wraparound support to individuals exiting homelessness. Relationships, routine, and respect are at the heart of what we do.
About the Role
The Full-Time Facilitator plays a foundational role in maintaining the rhythm, safety, and relational tone of the Neighbourly Homes community. Working on a rotating shift schedule, Facilitators are present across all hours of the day and night, providing frontline support to residents and contributing to the smooth operation of the site.
This role is ideal for someone who brings steady presence, good judgment, and a genuine interest in working alongside people with diverse experiences, including trauma, mental health challenges, or substance use.
Key Responsibilities
Resident Support & Engagement
- Build respectful, professional relationships with residents through day-to-day interaction
- Support residents in navigating daily routines, accessing site amenities, and maintaining their homes
- Model dignity, consistency, and healthy boundaries in every interaction
- Help promote a sense of calm and community through shared responsibility and mutual respect
Operational Duties
- Monitor shared spaces (bathroom, laundry, site grounds) for safety and cleanliness
- Complete daily logs, incident reports, and wellness observations with clarity and care
- Respond to crisis situations using de-escalation and trauma-informed practices
- Assist with community programming, wellness checks, and resident onboarding when scheduled
Team Collaboration
- Work as part of a rotating team with other facilitators and the Site Manager
- Support shift transitions, participate in team meetings and check-ins
- Offer leadership and mentorship during shifts as needed, especially when covering solo
- Contribute to a work culture grounded in compassion, professionalism, and mutual support
Qualifications
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
- Completion of a Human Services or PSW diploma or certificate
- Completion of at least one year of university in a related field
- 3+ years of relevant experience in supportive housing, shelter work, addictions, or community services
Required:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and support people with complex needs
- Comfort with digital documentation and basic reporting tools
- Consistent reliability and a high level of professional integrity
- Must pass a criminal record and vulnerable sector check
- Reliable transportation is required for shift flexibility and emergency coverage
Certifications
Applicants must have, or be able to obtain prior to employment:
- Workplace Standard First Aid & CPR (16-hour course)
- Clear Criminal Record Check
- Clear Vulnerable Sector Check (including Social Development clearance)
The following certifications are considered strong assets and may be supported through training if not already held:
- Naloxone / Opioid Overdose Response Training
- Mental Health First Aid
- ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training)
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI)
- Trauma-Informed Practice Training
Working Conditions
- Full-time (40 hours/week), scheduled across a rotating shift model including days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays
- Overnight shifts (12 AM – 8 AM) are eligible for a $2.26/hour premium
- Includes participation in bi-weekly wellness checks, team debriefs, and ongoing training
- Some shifts may involve working with individuals who are under the influence, in distress, or disclosing traumatic experiences
- Others may include celebrating a resident’s progress, welcoming someone into housing, or simply sharing coffee and conversation
- All shifts require a calm, consistent, and grounded approach
- The role involves:
- Supporting individuals with complex needs, including those who may be under the influence or experiencing mental health symptoms
- Navigating conversations that may involve trauma
- Responding to multiple priorities during busy shifts
- Celebrating moments of progress with residents, however small
