Job Overview

Kitchen Manager – Salt Face Mule Brewing Co.
About Us:
Salt Face Mule Brewing Co. is Asheville’s go-to spot for mountain-inspired brews and Appalachian soul food. We’re more than just a brewery; we’re a community hub that values Southern hospitality, fresh ingredients, and a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. We are looking for a Kitchen Manager who can lead our culinary team with the same grit and heart we put into every pint.
The Role:
As Kitchen Manager, you are the backbone of our food operations. You’ll oversee the daily execution of our menu, manage a fast-paced back-of-house (BOH) team, and ensure every plate—from our signature mule burgers to our seasonal snacks—hits the table perfectly. You’ll balance culinary creativity with the operational discipline needed to run a profitable, clean, and efficient kitchen.
What You’ll Do:

  • Lead the Team: Hire, train, and schedule BOH staff. Foster a positive, high-energy culture where your team feels supported.
  • Operations: Manage inventory, food ordering, and labor costs to meet budget goals.
  • Quality Control: Maintain high standards for food prep, presentation, and taste consistency.
  • Safety & Sanitation: Ensure the kitchen exceeds health department standards and safety protocols.
  • Menu Collaboration: Work with the General Manager and Owners on seasonal specials and menu optimizations that pair perfectly with our beer list.

What You Bring:

  • Experience: 2+ years in a kitchen leadership role (Kitchen Manager, Sous Chef, or Lead Line Cook) in a high-volume environment.
  • Leadership: A "lead-from-the-front" attitude. You aren't afraid to jump on the line during a rush.
  • Organization: Strong proficiency in inventory management, food costing, and scheduling software.
  • Passion: A genuine love for Appalachian flavors and the craft beer industry.
  • Certification: Current ServSafe Manager certification (or willingness to obtain).

Perks:

  • Competitive salary based on experience.
  • Performance-based bonuses.
  • Deep discounts on meals and, of course, beer.
  • A collaborative work environment where your voice and ideas actually matter.
