Restaurant Server – Job Description

Position Summary

The Restaurant Server is responsible for providing friendly, attentive, and professional service to guests throughout their dining experience. Servers are responsible for taking accurate orders, serving food and beverages, maintaining their assigned tables and section, and ensuring guests receive excellent service from arrival through payment.

Responsibilities

  • Greet guests promptly and professionally.
  • Explain menu items, specials, ingredients, and available options.
  • Take accurate food and beverage orders and enter them correctly into the POS system.
  • Confirm modifications, allergies, and special requests with the kitchen when necessary.
  • Serve food and beverages promptly and according to restaurant standards.
  • Check on guests throughout their meal without being intrusive.
  • Refill beverages and anticipate guest needs.
  • Maintain assigned tables and section throughout the shift.
  • Pre-bus tables by removing finished plates, glasses, and unnecessary items.
  • Work closely with hosts, bussers, food runners, bartenders, kitchen staff, and managers.
  • Verify food is correct before serving whenever possible.
  • Address guest concerns professionally and immediately involve a manager when necessary.
  • Present checks accurately and process payments according to restaurant procedures.
  • Properly handle cash, credit cards, discounts, comps, and other forms of payment.
  • Never apply unauthorized discounts, voids, comps, or promotions.
  • Complete assigned opening, side-work, and closing duties.
  • Restock server stations and maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Follow alcohol-service laws and restaurant alcohol policies.
  • Follow food-safety, sanitation, dress-code, attendance, and workplace policies.
  • Follow instructions and table assignments provided by the Shift Manager.
  • Assist other team members when needed to provide excellent overall guest service.

  • Friendly, professional, and positive attitude.
  • Ability to multitask and remain organized during high-volume service.
  • Ability to learn and accurately explain the restaurant's food and beverage menu.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and safely carry trays and plates.
  • Dependable and punctual.
  • Strong teamwork skills.
  • Previous serving experience preferred.

Performance Expectations

Servers are expected to maintain high standards of guest service, order accuracy, menu knowledge, cleanliness, teamwork, professionalism, and efficiency while taking ownership of their assigned tables and section.
