Position Summary:
As a member of the Back of House (kitchen) team, you will be responsible for ensuring the preparation of high-quality food, maintaining kitchen cleanliness, and supporting overall efficiency in the kitchen area. You will work closely with the kitchen staff to prepare, cook, and plate traditional Puerto Rican dishes while keeping a clean and organized work environment.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare ingredients and cook menu items according to restaurant recipes and standards.
- Ensure food quality, portions, and presentation meet restaurant expectations.
- Safely and efficiently operate kitchen equipment such as grills, fryers, and ovens.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of workstations, storage areas, and kitchen equipment.
- Follow all food safety and sanitation regulations to meet health standards.
- Assist with food prep tasks such as chopping vegetables, marinating meats, and making sauces.
- Work with the kitchen team to complete customer orders efficiently.
- Help with dishwashing, restocking ingredients, and end-of-shift cleaning tasks.
- Monitor inventory levels and notify the manager of any shortages or items that need to be restocked.
- Follow proper food storage procedures to maintain freshness and reduce waste.
- Perform other duties assigned by the Kitchen Manager or Executive Chef.
Requirements:
- Previous experience in a kitchen, food prep, or professional cooking preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of Puerto Rican cuisine or willingness to learn traditional cooking techniques.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and under pressure.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to food quality.
- Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to follow recipes and instructions accurately.
- Basic knowledge of food safety and hygiene.
- Positive attitude, willingness to work as part of a team, and strong work ethic.
