Responsibilities

  • • Monitor and observe guests dining experience. Ensure guests are satisfied with the food and service. Respond promptly and courteously to any requests – DO NOT IGNORE ANY GUEST, ESPECIALLY IF THERE IS AN ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE RESOLVED • Inform guests of nightly dinner and drink features and any menu changes or menu updates • Check guests’ identification to ensure that they meet minimum age requirements for consumption of alcoholic beverages • Ask if any guests have allergies or dietary restrictions the kitchen needs to be aware of • Be knowledgeable of menu and make recommendations • Take food and beverage orders from guests and enter on the point-of-sale • Deliver food and beverages from kitchen and bar to guests in a timely manner • Monitor ticket times of your tables; alert manager, expo, and/or bartender if items have unacceptable ticket times • Maintain clean service areas • Explain to guests how various menu items are prepared, describing ingredients, and cooking methods • Prepare tables for meals, including setting up items such as steak knives, extra plates, spoons, etc. • Remove dishes and glasses from tables and take them to kitchen or bar for cleaning • Assist host or hostess by answering phones to take reservations or to-go orders, and by greeting, seating, and thanking guests • Perform cleaning duties, such as sweeping and mopping floors, vacuuming carpet, tidying up server station, taking out trash, and checking and cleaning bathroom throughout the course of each shift • When asking guests if they would like another beverage, a refill, or anything additional for their meal, ask two guests at a time (not the table as a whole) to ensure each guest can hear you • Describe and recommend wines to guests • Perform tableside wine service • Prepare final bill, present check to guest, accept payment, process credit card charges, or make change if needed • Thank guests for their visit and invite them to return • Be ready and willing to assist fellow servers as situations arise • Be ready and willing to assist bussers with clearing and resetting tables • Be available to fill in as needed to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the restaurant as directed by the manager or immediate supervisor • Be able to work on your feet for long periods of time • Be able to lift and carry trays • Clean tables after guests have finished dining • Perform side work at the start and end of each shift as assigned by immediate supervisor • Check out with manager (or closing server and closing bartender if manager is not present) before clocking out at the end of scheduled shift • Attend all scheduled employee meetings and offers suggestions for improvement • Coordinate with and assist fellow employees to meet guests’ needs and support the operation of the restaurant • No consumption of alcoholic beverages while working
