Busser – Job Description

Position Summary

The Busser is responsible for keeping the dining room clean, organized, and ready for guests. Bussers support servers and other front-of-house staff by clearing and resetting tables, maintaining dining areas, and helping ensure smooth and efficient service.

Responsibilities

• Clear used plates, glasses, silverware, and other items from tables promptly.
• Clean and sanitize tables, chairs, booths, and surrounding areas.
• Reset tables quickly and correctly according to restaurant standards.
• Ensure tables have the proper silverware, glassware, napkins, and other required items.
• Maintain clean and organized server stations throughout the shift.
• Refill water and assist guests with basic requests when appropriate.
• Assist servers and food runners during busy periods.
• Bring dirty dishes and glassware to the appropriate dishwashing area.
• Keep walkways and dining areas free of dishes, trash, spills, and other hazards.
• Sweep or clean floors as needed during service.
• Immediately address spills or notify appropriate staff to prevent accidents.
• Assist with moving and arranging tables and chairs for reservations or larger parties.
• Restock service stations with necessary supplies.
• Empty trash and assist with general dining-room cleanliness as assigned.
• Handle dishes, glassware, furniture, and restaurant equipment carefully.
• Communicate with servers and hosts when tables are cleaned and ready for new guests.
• Complete assigned opening, side-work, and closing duties.
• Follow all restaurant sanitation, safety, attendance, and workplace policies.
• Follow instructions from the Shift Manager or designated supervisor.

Requirements

• Ability to work quickly in a fast-paced restaurant.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to safely lift and carry bus tubs, dishes, and restaurant supplies.
• Strong attention to cleanliness and organization.
• Restaurant experience preferred but not required.

Performance Expectations

Bussers are expected to maintain cleanliness, speed, teamwork, organization, and attention to guests while helping tables become available quickly without making guests feel rushed.
