Job Overview
Position Summary
The Host/Hostess is responsible for creating a welcoming first impression for guests by greeting, seating, and coordinating the flow of service throughout the restaurant. This role manages reservations, waitlists, and guest requests while balancing indoor and outdoor seating areas to optimize guest experience and service efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Guest Experience
- Greet guests promptly with a warm, friendly attitude.
- Manage guest reservations and walk-in traffic.
- Accurately quote wait times and manage waitlists.
- Escort guests to tables (indoor or outdoor) based on preference and availability.
- Provide menus and inform guests of daily specials or promotions.
- Address guest concerns and communicate issues to management when necessary.
Seating & Floor Management
- Balance seating between indoor and outdoor dining areas to maintain smooth service flow.
- Monitor table status and communicate with servers and managers regarding table turnover.
- Adjust seating plans based on weather conditions affecting outdoor dining.
- Coordinate with servers to ensure sections are evenly distributed.
Communication & Coordination
- Maintain clear communication with servers, bartenders, bussers, and management.
- Relay special guest requests (allergies, celebrations, accessibility needs).
- Notify management of large parties or VIP guests.
- Assist in coordinating special events or high-volume service periods.
Operational Duties
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of host stand and entry area.
- Keep restrooms and waiting areas monitored and report maintenance needs.
- Answer phone calls and respond to reservation inquiries.
- Manage online reservation systems (Resy).
- Assist with light administrative tasks as needed.
Qualifications
