Position details

Employment: Hourly, non-exempt; full-time or part-time.

Schedule: The current operating window is Wednesday through Monday, 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.; the bakery is closed Tuesdays. Shifts may include mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Compensation: Starting pay of $14.50–$16 per hour, depending on experience, plus approximately $5–$8 per hour in tips. Tips are estimates, vary by shift and business volume, and are not guaranteed.

Monona Bakery & Eatery is an established neighborhood bakery and restaurant serving scratch-made bakery items, breakfast, lunch, and Honduran- and Mexican-inspired dishes. The opportunity

All front-of-house employees join the team as Café Team Members. You will help create a welcoming, clean, and well-prepared guest environment while learning the skills needed to serve guests independently. This is not a cleaning-only position.

With paid training, you will build the ability to manage orders, payments, standard drinks, food handoff, guest questions, and routine service recovery. Cleaning, stocking, table care, sanitation, opening, and closing duties remain shared responsibilities for all Café Team Members.

What you will do

• Acknowledge guests promptly and communicate with warmth, respect, patience, and professionalism.

• Run food and beverages, support accurate handoff, and assist with dine-in, takeout, and delivery orders.

• Clear, wipe, and reset tables; keep service and dining areas clean, organized, stocked, and guest-ready.

• Follow food-safety, sanitation, chemical-handling, cash-control, and workplace-safety procedures.

• Learn the menu and approved allergen-information process, and promptly involve a qualified employee or manager when uncertain.

• Learn and practice point-of-sale, payments, cash handling, drink preparation, order verification, and guest-service skills with assigned support.

• Complete opening, shift-change, and closing checklist duties and help teammates as service needs change.

• Accept coaching, ask questions, apply feedback, and make consistent progress through training.

Training and development

Every new Café Team Member receives paid, hands-on training and ongoing coaching. You will learn how to greet and assist guests, take orders and payments, prepare standard drinks, handle food orders accurately, and follow food-safety and service procedures.

Your manager will support you as you practice new skills and build confidence. Training and feedback will continue as you take on additional responsibilities.

Essential role expectations

This is a fast-paced café role that includes guest interaction, food and beverage handling, standing and moving between work areas, routine cleaning, stocking, and use of approved equipment and supplies. Employees must be able to perform the essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation and follow all safety, food-handling, sanitation, cash-control, and workplace-conduct requirements.
