At Books, a whiskey and cigar society, our Barbacks are the quiet force behind the bar’s seamless service. You’ll support the bartending team with efficiency and precision, making sure every glass, bottle, and garnish is in place so our guests can fully immerse themselves in the whiskey experience. Your role is essential in maintaining the flow, energy, and polish that defines our bar.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain bar stock: refill liquor, beer, wine, mixers, ice, and glassware.
  • Support bartenders with setup and breakdown during opening and closing shifts.
  • Keep bar stations clean, organized, and fully supplied at all times.
  • Remove trash, bus bar areas, and manage dish bins discreetly and efficiently.
  • Polish glassware, prep garnishes, and assist with bar tools and equipment.
  • Restock backup bottles, napkins, straws, and all bar materials throughout service.
  • Assist with deliveries, inventory organization, and stock rotation.
  • Support whiskey tasting setups, cigar pairings, private events, and service resets.
  • Follow all health and safety codes with precision.
  • Be the extra set of eyes and hands the bartending team can’t live without.

Skills

  • 1+ year of experience in a high-volume or upscale bar/restaurant preferred.
  • Hustle-first mentality and obsessive attention to detail.
  • Physically fit — able to lift 50 lbs and move quickly in tight spaces.
  • Respectful communication style and calm presence under pressure.
  • Availability for weekends, late nights, and special events.
  • TABC and Food Handler certifications (or ability to obtain).

Job Settings

  • Primarily evening and weekend shifts.
  • Must be available for holidays, whiskey events, and private functions.
